About Me

Hi Parents and Students!
My name is Allison McGarry. I recently moved to Arizona from Illinois, and I'm enjoying settling in to my new home. I've been to Arizona many times and each time I come here I discover something else to love about this state!
I received my BA in Anthropology from the University of Illinois in 2002, but a few years later I decided to go back to school to get my teaching certificate. I received my Masters in Elementary Education from Saint Xavier University in Chicago in May of 2006, and since that time I've been substitute teaching. I've worked in every type of classroom imaginable, from Pre-K to 8th grade, and I think it is great preparation for a teaching career!
For my future third graders, a few interesting facts about me:
I came to Arizona with my dog, a pug named Alvy. He's the friendliest dog in the world! Here is a photo of him that you will also see on my desk at school:

I love poetry (I bet you will, too, after we learn about it this year!)
I brought my guitar with me when I moved. I used to play a long time ago, and I hope to find some time to practice. I play the piano, too, but I didn't bring that with me :).
I can't wait to meet you all in August! Enjoy the rest of the summer!
